Whether you’re a great cook or a newcomer to the kitchen, weaning your baby might seem like a challenge at first. So here are some easy weaning recipes to ensure that your baby has a balanced and tasty diet.


Weaning starts off slow and simple so your kitchen skills can evolve with your baby’s expanding needs and tastes. Start off with single vegetables

Start your baby off by encouraging them to try one vegetable at a time. This also helps you as one-vegetable recipes are simple to follow. Here are four easy baby weaning recipes that are perfect for between months 6 and 8 and will help to set you and your baby off on your weaning journey.

Keep an eye out for whether your baby exhibits any signs of being allergic to any of this new food, such as skin rashes, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or swelling of the lips or tongue. If so, it is strongly recommended to consult your doctor immediately.

BROCCOLI PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • 100g broccoli florets
  • Your baby’s usual milk or cooled down boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Wash the broccoli
  2. Steam it for 8−10 mins, or until you can stick your fork into it
  3. Cool slightly, and add 3 tbsp of water or your baby’s usual milk
  4. Blend until it’s smooth and has no visible lumps (use more liquid if you need to make it runnier)

CARROT PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • 1 medium carrot
  • Your baby’s usual milk or cooled down boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Wash the carrot
  2. Peel carrot, and cut into slices ½ cm thick
  3. Boil or steam for 8–10 mins
  4. Cool slightly, and add 2 tbsp of water or milk
  5. Blend until it’s smooth and has no visible lumps (use more liquid if you need to make it runnier)

PEA PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • 50g of frozen or fresh peas
  • Your baby’s usual milk or cooled down boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Boil or steam for no longer than 2 mins
  2. Cool slightly, and add 3 tbsp of water or milk
  3. Blend until it’s smooth and has no visible lumps (use more liquid if you need to make it runnier)

CAULIFLOWER PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • 100g steamed or boiled cauliflower flower
  • Your baby’s usual milk or warm, boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Wash and halve florets.
  2. Steam for 10–13 mins until soft.
  3. Cool slightly, add 3 tbsp of water or milk and blend with food processor or hand blender until runny and smooth. Add more liquid if you need.

SPINACH PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Around half a bag of spinach, or 50g
  • Your baby’s usual milk or cooled down boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Wash the spinach
  2. Cook in pan until the leaves are dark and floppy
  3. Cool slightly, and add 2 tbsp of water or milk
  4. Blend until it’s smooth and has no visible lumps (use more liquid if you need to make it runnier)

Vary with new vegetables, fruits and different textures

Once you think that your baby is feeling comfortable with the single vegetable purees he is eating, you can introduce fruits too to make sure he is exposed to a variety of different tastes in order to establish an appetite for later life. Another clever tip is to offer him his favorite puree, but slightly lumpier – this will get him used to new textures too. The following weaning recipes for babies will help you to introduce new elements to your baby’s diet.

APPLE PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • One apple
  • Your baby’s usual milk or cooled down boiled water

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Peel and core the apple
  2. Cook the apple in about 200ml of water, until it bubbles
  3. Reduce the heat, and stir every now and again, until it’s soft
  4. Cool slightly, and add 5 tbsp of water or milk
  5. Blend until it’s smooth and has no visible lumps (use more liquid if you need to make it runnier)

AVOCADO PUREE RECIPE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • A ripe avocado

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. With skin left on, use only about a quarter of the avocado
  2. Mash with a fork

MASHED BANANA

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Half a banana

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

  1. Peel and slice the banana
  2. Mash with a fork
